Brain Tumors—Neuro Oncology

Dogs and, to a lesser degree, cats are susceptible to developing brain tumors with the incidence in dogs thought to be higher than in people. Brain tumors can arise in different types of cells within the brain or from metastasized tumors in other parts of the body.

Brain Cysts

Hydrocephalus—An abnormal accumulation of cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) in the ventricles or cavities of the brain.

Encephalitis—Inflammation of and/or an infection in the brain

Head Trauma

Hepatic Encephalopathy—Brain dysfunction associated with liver disease

Vascular Accidents—Strokes

Vestibular Dysfunction—Symptoms include dizziness, head tilt, rolling or falling

Epilepsy— Primary seizure disorder

Spinal Cord

Atlanto-Axial Luxation—Instability of the first two cervical vertebrae

Fibrocartilaginous Emboli—A condition of the spinal cord causing stroke-like symptoms

Intervertebral Disk Disease—A condition of the spine where a herniated disk or disks cause balance and movement problems

Lumbosacral Disease—Compression of the nerve roots and spinal cord as they pass through the lumbosacral portion of the lower spine

Meningitis—Inflammation of the spinal cord covering

Myelitis—Inflammation and/or infection of the spinal cord

Spinal Fracture

Spinal Tumors—Tumors that arise from the bone or spinal cord tissue

Syrinx—Fluid accumulation in the spinal cord

Vertebral Stenosis or Instability—This abnormal formation of the bones of the cervical spinal column is often called wobblers disease
